Modifying a Doc Johnson's iVibe Pocket Rocket™

Overview

Modifying a Doc Johnson iVibe Pocket Rocket™ for teledildonics use is a straightforward operation.

The iVibe Pocket Rocket is a simple on-off device, so it needs only to have the positive and negative terminals of its switch jumpered. The leads will be attached to any computer controller capable of sending basic on-off commands.

Procedures

The steps involved in modifying a Pocket Rocket are as follows:

Device Preparation

First, a small hole must be drilled into the base or side of the battery compartment so that the two wires that will connect to the teledildonics

computer interface can be inserted. The wires are run along side the battery up to the negative terminal on the base of the iVibe.

Soldering the Contacts

Solder your negative wire to the outside of this terminal. The inside of the terminal (the side closest the battery) is the contact face. Soldering there would interfer with normal operations. If you don't intend to use the iVibe as a standalone device (without teledildonics), feel free to solder on that face.

The positive wire needs to be extended beyond this point by a couple centimeters. You'll need enough slack to be able to feed the wire into the top of the iVibe and solder the wire to the positive terminal. Once the soldering is complete you can draw the slack on the positive lead back out through the bottom of the battery compartment, so be generous.

Solder your positive wire to the inside of the terminal in the top of the iVibe. The outward face (facing the wall) is the contact face so avoid that side.

Connecting to your Computer

Draw all the slack out of the negative lead so that it runs straight out the end of the compartment, and then draw out slack from the positive lead until there is a small length remaining. You want enough slack to be able to replace the battery. All you'll need is to be able to unlock the iVibe and slide the battery compartment down enough to clear the top housing. At that point you can turn the two pieces so that they are at a 90 degree angle and the battery will come out easily. You will be able to stuff that amount of slack into the top of the device when you close it up.

If you'd like, glue the leads in the hole that you made at the base of the iVibe so that they don't get accidentally pulled and bend your contacts.

You can now connect these leads to your computer's teledildonics interface.

Other Thoughts

If you'd like to interchange your devices, solder the plug end of a 2.5mm Power Plug (Radio Shack PN: 274-289) to these leads and then solder a 2.5mm Phone Jack (Radio Shack PN: 274-245) to the wires coming out of your teledildonics interface.
